Adding database information to a cms created page via a controller

Hi have been using fuel cms for a while now but would like to know how to add items to a cms controlled page via a controller not by adding to a layout but maybe injecting database driven information into the cms page via mvc is this possible and could you give me a general guide example I'm sure it would be useful to everyone

The Fuel_pages::render method allows you to pass additional variables to a page created in the CMS:

How would I fire this function to load the additional information to the cms page. Would I use routes or something else
