Godaddy 500 error

edited March 2011 in Installation
I have Fuel working on bluehost, but now I want to use it for a client on godaddy. After copying files and fresh DB install, the home page renders correctly, but I get a 500 when I attempt to access the admin. I have attempted all the advice (copy & paste, trial & error) I can find in the forums on the config file and .htaccess files, and the most I've been able to do is change the 500 error to a 404 error. Godaddy does not provide server error log files.

Does Fuel provide error logs? (I can't locate)

Is a 404 error "better" than a 500 error?

Suggestions on where/what I need to start studying? Should I really give up on godaddy?
