site variables question

Here's an odd question, bet you haven't had it yet:

Is there a way to use a site function in a site_variable to be processed for sending an email?

Ie. I want to pull a site_variable message with a link in it which uses {site_url()} and put it in an email.

The email doesn't process {site_url()} at all.

Thoughts?

There is a parse_template_syntax in the MY_string_helper.php which is loaded automatically that can parse a string with template syntax.
