I just uploaded a fresh copy of 1.4.2 to my web server, and the installation page doesn't load (aside from the background color). Any idea why?

    What does the browser console say?
    What do the server logs say (PHP/Apache etc)?

    Browser console is empty and there is no PHP error log. Page eventually times out with "the connection was reset" message.

    If I remove <?php fuel_set_var('layout', '')?> from _install.php, the page loads. Is this a bug?

    Hmm... all that line should do is specify no layout for the page. Do you have a local version running?
